Commitment to Excellence
Dan's commitment to excellence filters through to all levels of this company. All of our technicians are licensed trappers and many of them hold their own falconer's license(s). Continued learning and training is a must for all of us.
Proprietary Products
At Hawkeye, we design and/or make aids that are for our customers' use alone. An example is our pigeon traps - designed by and for Hawkeye. Many years of experience and trial and error have led to a one-of-a-kind pigeon trap design that is so much more effective than a conventional one.
Out-of-the-box Thinking
When and where a conventional approach is not feasible or successful, we will devise custom solutions. We continually test out theories and products to help our customers navigate difficult or unique situations.
What all do we do here at Hawkeye, you ask? Here's an example:
Well, this one is not the usual day at the office, but in our job description, nonetheless.
Imagine an over 350 foot brick chimney towering over the city of Toronto, thoughtfully equipped with high intensity warning lights for aircraft and other fancy stuff. Unfortunately, there seems to be a distinct lack of power/hydro to the entire structure – something that needs looking at. And look, they will. Enter a crew of brave workers climbing up this chimney to diagnose and fix what needs fixing. Unbeknownst to the lads, a red-tailed hawk has taken up residence way at the top of the chimney. And, she ain’t happy. Momma Red Tail quickly turns into Angry Bird and launches an attack. More than a little alarmed, our workers hastily make their descent back to solid ground and gather to ponder their predicament.
"Who they gonna call?" (No… not them, that would be silly.) They are going to call Hawkeye Bird and Animal Control. Owner and Master Falconer Dan Frankian has raised and trained more than a dozen Red-Tailed Hawks in his 30 years of falconry. If anyone can deal with this peeved bird of prey, it's him.
So, Dan gathers up his courage and equipment and shimmies up to the top of the chimney. He sets up his home away from home for the next week (or however long the repair crew needs to be there) 351 feet up in the air. He is decked out in hard hat, goggles, face shield, gloves, harnesses, and umpteen layers of clothing. And he, too, quickly makes the acquaintance of Mrs. Red Tail and is dodging her attacks. Using hands, ropes, and a pyro gun to scare her off, he sets out to remove her nest and therefore, her reason for being there. No eggs in the nest yet, whew.
After the nest has been moved, the hawk makes several appearances during the day, reminding Dan that she is still there and still watching. After a few days, the arrangement becomes a little more amicable; in the early stages Dan said he felt a bit like a piñata.
So Dan will stay up there to provide protection to the workers below from the hawk. Red-tailed Hawks are one of the largest birds you’ll see in North America, known for aggressively defending territory and with their speed and sharp talons exceedingly well equipped for doing so (Dan will attest to that with great conviction).
Hawkeye Bird and Animal control is a one-stop shop. We are about preserving human and animal/raptor lives in whatever fashion necessary. If a ‘normal’ solution won’t do, we will come up with a custom one. We quite literally climb to the highest heights, if that is what’s required.
